Victoria Symphony presents holiday favourites for the whole family this winter season

Victoria B.C. – Victoria Symphony (VS) is on stage this December and January with a variety of holiday favourites suitable for the whole family. Seasonal hits, children’s classics, and favourite overtures are only the tip of the iceberg. The holiday concert series, running from December 10th, 2022 to January 1st, 2023 also boasts an all-star lineup that includes “one of Canada’s most sought-after sopranos” (Maclean’s) Simone Osborne and American Idol finalist Brooke White.

Holiday Concert Schedule:

A Brooke White Christmas – December 10th at 7:30 pm & December 11th at 2:30 pm | Royal Theatre

This American Idol finalist blew the judges away and Carly Simon declared Brooke’s covers exceeded the original recordings. Tracing her inspiration to vocalists such as Karen Carpenter, Joni Mitchell, and Kelly Clarkson, the talented singer/songwriter Brooke White applies her exquisite voice to a program of seasonal classics and holiday hits led by Maestro Sean O’Loughlin.

Handel’s Messiah – December 16th at 7:30 pm & December 18th at 2:30 pm | Farquhar at UVic

Maestro Giuseppe Pietraroia leads talented soloists, the Victoria Symphony, Vox Humana & Friends in a complete performance of Handel’s sublime seasonal masterpieceBrimming with dramatic arias, resplendent passages, and the iconic Hallelujah Chorus – the oratorio may be the most famous piece of classical music in the world, and for good reason.

The Hockey Sweater & The Snowman – December 17th at 4:30 pm | Farquhar at UVic

A perfect pairing of family classics are brought to life in a special holiday event combining multimedia storytelling with live musical accompaniment. Roch Carrier’s The Hockey Sweater brings a uniquely Canadian tale of rivalry, community, identity, and belonging. Raymond Brigg’s The Snowman, featuring Howard Blake’s beloved classic “Walking In the Air”, whisks audiences away on a winter adventure with a young boy and his magical playmate.

New Year’s Day Celebration – January 1st at 2:30 pm | Royal Theatre

Start off the New Year with a program every bit as effervescent as a glass of bubbly! Maestro Giuseppe Pietraroia and our guests share much loved arias, overtures, choruses, and dances. As our special guest, Canadian soprano Simone Osborne will share some of her favourite arias. Also joining the festivities are the dancers of Ballet Victoria, guided by Paul Destrooper, as well as members of Pacific Opera Victoria Chorus.
