Summer music festival presents concerts for all around beautiful Victoria locations

Victoria Symphony’s Symphony in the Summer Festival boasts six spectacular concerts at five beautiful venues over two weekends this summer. Festival dates: July 27 – August 5, 2023.

 Victoria B.C. – Victoria Symphony (VS) is preparing for the start of the Symphony in the Summer Festival, running from July 27 to August 5, around some of Victoria’s most beautiful locations. With free and ticketed concerts, there’s something for everyone.

VS at Christ Church Cathedral – Thursday, July 27: Critically acclaimed pianist and audience favourite, Lorraine Min, plays Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2. From the cancel of Victoria’s exquisite Christ Church Cathedral, the concert closes with Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 Op. 56 in A minor “Scottish”. The perfect opening to a week of brilliant music!

Mozart and Martinis at the Atrium – Friday, July 28 (SOLD OUT): Start your weekend right with a cocktail, appetizers, and the excellence of the VS in the most intimate and informal of settings. One of our signature events, this highly social gathering takes quality music outside the concert hall and offers an entirely different VS experience. Mozart, Martinis, and more, as e share the music of Haydn, Handel, Tchaikovsky, and Mendelssohn.

VS at Market Square – Saturday, July 29 (FREE): An evening of classical favourites featuring an appearance by young violin soloist Max Francis. Join us from the steps of Market Square, or one of the courtyard restaurants, for an evening of Mozart, Mendelssohn, and more! Starting at 4:00 pm, VS presents a series of chamber music concerts featuring musicians from the orchestra and some special guests.

VS at The Butchart Gardens – Thursday, August 3: A signature musical event of the summer! The VS Orchestra, led by Maestro Timothy Vernon, performs at the beautiful Butchart Gardens alongside soprano Aviva Fortunata, and young violin soloist Max Francis.

Symphony and Opera at the Cameron Bandshell – Friday, August 4 and Saturday, August 5 (FREE): Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria offer two free full orchestral concerts at the Cameron Bandshell in beautiful Beacon Hill Park. Take a bench seat, or bring your own chair and blanket, and enjoy an early evening concert featuring excerpts from our upcoming Masterworks and Pops Series, as well as excerpts from Pacific Opera’s 2023/24 Season. As a prelude to the Victoria Symphony’s early evening performances, you’ll be serenaded by musicians from the orchestra and some special guests. Friday will feature a harp duo, while Saturday you’ll enjoy a brass quintet and a string sextet.
