Though it was originally conceived as an Easter piece with its second and third parts focusing on the crucifixion and resurrection, Handel’s Messiah lives in the hearts of many as an all-time favourite Christmas oratorio. And can you blame them? The part you’ll get to sing if you come to this event has all the best choruses from the Christmas section: “And the glory of the Lord,” “For unto us a child is born,” as well as a bonus “Hallelujah.”

We’ve Got Great Musicians and Soloists
Cathedral Director of Music, Donald Hunt possesses a rare ability to work with singers of all skill levels. He is joined by Assistant Director of Music Mark McDonald who will help you find your notes from the piano. For the informal performance at the end of the afternoon, you’ll be joined by the Victoria Symphony and their lineup of international soloists singing Handel’s stunning arias.
And finally, you’ll join a 200-strong choir. Many will have sung this piece every year since they were in their teens and twenties. Others still will never have held a piece of sheet music before. All will come together to produce a glorious and festive sound that will swell the roof of Christ Church Cathedral!
