March 20, 2020

We are in extraordinary times as the world grapples with the effects of the COVID-19 virus. Our highest priority is the health and welfare of our patrons, musicians, conductors, artists, staff and volunteers. And so, it is with regret that we announce that the Victoria Symphony will be cancelling the remainder of the 2019/20 season.

This is a heartbreaking decision for music lovers, our musicians and artists, our community and our entire organization. At this time we are committed to returning to performances when it is deemed safe to do so by the British Columbia Government and the top Health officials in British Columbia.

We are grateful to be able to do our part for social distancing to try and slow the spread of COVID-19, however, these measures are devastating to our musicians and to our financial position. As a non-profit organization, we rely on the patronage and support of our community to keep our organization financially viable. Therefore, under these most unusual circumstances, we would like to ask you to consider donating your tickets to the concerts that have been disrupted by these unforeseen circumstances.

The following options are available to 2019/20 ticket holders:

  • Donate your ticket(s) back to the Victoria Symphony and receive a charitable tax receipt
  • Request a refund for your ticket(s) affected by cancellation

There is no need to call the box office and exchange your tickets right away as the phone lines will be quite busy over the next few days. We will be honouring all exchanges and donations in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we deal with this unexpected and unprecedented situation. We want to reassure ticket holders that we will respond to all inquiries.

Please contact our box office by:

  • Phone: 250-385-6515
  • Email: [email protected]
  • Mail: 620 View Street, suite 610, Victoria, BC V8W 1J6

Together with all arts organizations in our community, we ask you to consider continuing to support the VS through this extraordinary and difficult time. There are many ways to show support:

  • Donate tickets to cancelled performances for a tax receipt
  • Purchase gift certificates
  • Subscribe to the upcoming VS 2020/21 season
  • Make a donation
  • Order VS raffle tickets

We know that music can bring comfort, hope and community in difficult times, and our mission remains to ensure that this is available to our patrons and our community. In the coming weeks we will be using our online channels to share videos, articles, and playlists. We invite you to join us, and to connect with other music-lovers around the world, by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the current pandemic. Please be assured that as soon as conditions return to normal, the Victoria Symphony is eager to reassume its role as a contributor to the cultural life here on Vancouver Island.

On behalf of the Victoria Symphony, we hope you remain healthy and well.
