Tam Plays Butterfly Lovers Concerto

Fri, March 15th 8:00 PM - 10:00 pm

In the culmination of the Victoria Symphony-led Chinatown Celebration, this concert pays tribute to Victoria’s special heritage, featuring a world premiere by Chinese-Canadian composer Chan Ka Nin in a theatrical performance telling the story of Victoria’s own Chinatown with narration, music, song and more. Also included is the beautiful Chinese “Butterfly Lovers Concerto”, performed by our own Concertmaster Terence Tam.

There will be a special pre-concert lecture at 7:15 pm on the history of Victoria’s Chinatown, presented by Dr. David Lai. Using images from the past, Dr. Lai will talk about the architecture, culture, and overall human experiences in our Chinatown. Also before the show, Silk Road Tea will be performing a Chinese Tea Ceremony, and offering samples of special teas not normally available outside of China.
