Summer Library Assistant
The Library Assistant reports to the VS Librarian and is primarily involved with the digitization of the Victoria Symphony Music Library. The Library Assistant will also provide support to the VS Librarian on music preparation for the Summer Festival, 2022/23 season, and other special projects.
Specific Responsibilities
The Library Assistant will be under the direct supervision of the Victoria Symphony Librarian. They will have daily check-ins to touch base on activities and priorities, and weekly meetings to review progress and any concerns that exist.
The Library Assistant will primarily be involved with digitizing the Victoria Symphony music library. This will include scanning, filing, and updating the digital catalogue. The Library Assistant will work with the Victoria Symphony Librarian to establish a work plan for digitization, including timelines, priorities, digital cataloguing, and maintenance.
They will also assist the Victoria Symphony Librarian with preparing music for Symphony in the Summer Festival programming and preparations for the Victoria Symphony 2022/23 season. This includes music preparation activities to ensure the musicians of the orchestra have all sheet music requirements met in advance of rehearsals and performances. Additionally, they will assist with printing, and binding, preparing rented music for return, cataloguing and updating the orchestra library. They may also be asked to attend orchestra rehearsals and performances to assist the VS Librarian.
The Library Assistant will be trained by the Victoria Symphony Librarian in all tasks related to their work.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong computer skills, including experience using in Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and problem solve
- Pro-active with collaborative, with good follow-through skills
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in music or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- A background and/or interest in Music Librarianship an asset
Remuneration: $18.00 – $22.00/hour, commensurate with experience
